How long will the treatment last?
Dental Implants have been in successful use for 40 years. Whilst we cannot predict the future response for individuals the evidence is clearly very supportive for our view that once integrated, dental implants can be regarded as permanent for the majority of patients. The teeth placed on top of dental implants are subject to different “wear and tear” and therefore subject to the load placed on them. They may wear to the extent that replacement could be required in the future. It is also possible that a tooth made to fit harmoniously into the smile of a 20 year old may seem out of place in a more mature dentition and may need replacing purely for cosmetic reasons. When treatment planning for implants in a worn or compromised dentition we tend to take a long term view of the remaining teeth and will often recommend care to the remaining teeth as part of an overall definitive care plan.
